| Skis and boards are well worth looking after. They are
expensive and if they are not in top condition your performance may suffer. FINS
To start with, it's a good idea to ark the position of your fin with a marker pen - if you
need to remove the fin for any reason you will know where it need to go back. When
transporting your ski to the lake it's a good idea to protect the fin. Use a piece
of plastic pipe that you can slip over the top of you ski bag, covering the fin.
If you are taking your ski abroad, either remove it or make sure that it is well
protected. You can use rolled up newspaper - placing it either side of the fin so
that no part of the fin is showing below the paper. Sanitary towels are also good
for padding out around you fin. Always use a tube over the top of the bad, padding
your fin is just an extra measure, but it is not enough on its own.
If you have to lie your ski down on the ground, make sure you put it on its side.
Never lie it fin down on the ground.
BINDINGS
Make sure tat these are not too tight. Struggling to get into a binding can rip it.
Use shaving foam or binding slime to help you get your foot into the binding.
Never force your foot in! Make sure that your
|
wrap screws are tight. Use the pre-made holes in the rubber if
you need to adjust your bindings - never make new holes - 'home made' holes have a
tendency of splitting the rubber. SALT WATER
If you ski in salt water it's a good idea to wash your ski out after use.
Use a hose to get all the salt out of your binding, and from around you fin. Every
so often it's worth stripping your ski, removing the binding and fin and washing all the
part separately. You could polish the top of the ski with car polish to help protect it
from the salt. Remember to mark the position of your fin before you remove it.
GENERAL
Always try to use a padded bag. They are more expensive, but they protect
your ski or board. If you have the time and an old ripped wetsuit, you could make an
inner bag out of neoprene, rather than buying a padded bag.
Never throw your ski or board when things go wrong or if you have a bad ski.
You will regret it. If you feel the need to lash out - sap the water with your hand
- but newer take out your frustrations on your equipment. The better you look after
your equipment to better you will be able to perform for longer. Don't abuse it!
