Make Your Equipment Last
| If you are unfortunate enough to live in country where you winter
strikes, and you are mad enough to ski through the winter you will need to think about
storing your winter suit quite soon (hopefully) If you are still using your winter suit, make sure that you take good care of it. These suits are one of the most expensive pieces of equipment we used (apart from skis), so it's worth looking after them. Make sure that you wax the zip regularly. It doesn't take long, and it makes a huge difference. Try to wash your suit out after use with fresh water. Do not use household detergents to clean suits. You can buy specialist detergent made by wet suit companies. Where possible allow your suit to dry naturally, rather than putting it into a hot cupboard. Let the suit dry on a hanger. The hanger should be as wide as possible - do not use wire hangers - these may damage the suit. You can buy specialist wide hangers, but a good, wide, plastic hanger is fine. Never store your wetsuit in a bag. Always hang it up! If you ski in salt water - wash your suit out after every use! Before you store your winter suits for the |
summer, make sure you wash them out thoroughly. Throw your suit
in the bath, and give it a good rinse out. Let the suit dry naturally inside and out - this might take up to a week. Check the suit for damage - it's worth getting any problem areas fixed before you put the suit away for the summer - the last thing you want is to have to send your suit off when you want to use it once the cold weather is back. Assuming that the suit is not damaged and has dried out thoroughly, wax the rip, put the suit on the widest hanger you can find and hand it up in the wardrobe - not in the garage or the shed - keep your suit where you would keep you clothes - somewhere dry, and dark. Summer suits are easier to look after, but the basic idea is the same. Always rinse the suit out after use - especially if you ski in salt water, and let it dry naturally. Always hang suits up - do not store them in bags And as we all know........ |
